Fullmetal Alchemist

Edward Elric, a young, brilliant alchemist, has lost much in his twelve-year life: when he and his brother Alphonse try to resurrect their dead mother through the forbidden act of human transmutation, Edward loses his brother as well as two of his limbs. With his supreme alchemy skills, Edward binds Alphonse's soul to a large suit of armor. A year later, Edward, now promoted to the fullmetal alchemist of the state, embarks on a journey with his younger brother to obtain the Philosopher's Stone. The fabled mythical object is rumored to be capable of amplifying an alchemist's abilities by leaps and bounds, thus allowing them to override the fundamental law of alchemy: to gain something, an alchemist must sacrifice something of equal value. Edward hopes to draw into the military's resources to find the fabled stone and restore his and Alphonse's bodies to normal. However, the Elric brothers soon discover that there is more to the legendary stone than meets the eye, as they are led to the epicenter of a far darker battle than they could have ever imagined.

Fullmetal Alchemist: [To Lan Fan] Brat, quit blabbering on about trifling topics such as love and sadness. Don't underestimate us. She's the woman I chose. A will is unnecessary between us. That's usually how it is between a King and his companion.
Fullmetal Alchemist: A king is no king without his people. But people without a king are lost as well!
Fullmetal Alchemist: There's no way I'm dying before you do, you morally bankrupt Colonel with a God complex.
Fullmetal Alchemist: There are some things that can only be conveyed through words.
Fullmetal Alchemist: But you're thinking on too large a scale there, kid... If we don't want to drive ourselves crazy, we can only deal with what's directly in front of us.
Fullmetal Alchemist: People can say there is a balance, a logic that everything happens for a reason... But the truth is far less designed. No matter how hard you work, when you die, you die. Some spend their entire life trying to scratch their way to the top, and still die in poverty. While others are born into wealth without ever working at all. It's a cruel and random world. And yet the chaos is all so beautiful.
Fullmetal Alchemist: *referring to Armstrong taking off his shirt* Did he have to strip?..
Fullmetal Alchemist: There are some things in life that will only be understood through words.
Fullmetal Alchemist: They don't call me Greed for nothing! I want money, I want women, status and power! I want everything this world's selling and eternity's topping the list!
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Philosopher's Stone: those who possess it, no longer bound by the laws of equivalent exchange in alchemy, can gain without sacrifice...create without equal exchange. We searched for it... and we found it.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Even when our eyes are closed, there's a whole world out there, that lives outside of ourselves and our dreams.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Babies aren't born after just 5 months!
Fullmetal Alchemist: Are you telling me to go back and put a corpse on trial?
Fullmetal Alchemist: *referring to Alphonse* This pain's nothing...compared to what he's given up...
Fullmetal Alchemist: A lesson without pain is meaningless. That's because no one can gain without sacrificing something. But by enduring that pain and overcoming it, he shall obtain a powerful, unmatched heart... A Fullmetal Heart.
Fullmetal Alchemist: *grabs two citizens and swings them around in a circle* Shorty?! Could a shorty do this?! What else you want to call me: a half-pint bean-sprout midget?! I'm still growing you backwater desert idiots!
Fullmetal Alchemist: *on the phone* I'm sorry to interrupt you, Major, but let me offer a bit of feminine advice. BABIES AREN'T BORN AFTER JUST FIVE MONTHS!
Fullmetal Alchemist: Wrong, holy man. All we want is to get our bodies normal again. See, we don't lie about what's possible. We didn't start a cult.
Fullmetal Alchemist: You're lucky Al. Since your body's huge.
Fullmetal Alchemist: What do I have to live for now that I know Cain won't come back? You tell me that, Ed!
Fullmetal Alchemist: "I long to see someone who died", "I want to be rich", "I want women", "I want to protect the world"... They're all desires. In other words, wishes. If you ask me, there's neither "right" or "wrong" when it comes to greed. You humans go around ranking certain types of greed in order from good to bad, which makes you so hard to understand.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Master Sergeant Fuery, during your last physical it was discovered you have Athletes Foot, and we now believe it is affecting your brain.
Fullmetal Alchemist: [telling Mustang about the investigation on Scar] His bloodstained clothes washed up further downstream. We don't know if that means that he's dead, or just naked.
Fullmetal Alchemist: I am an instrument of divine judgment!
Fullmetal Alchemist: Come on now. Is that anyway to talk to your new boss, landlord, and all-around overseer?

Fullmetal Alchemist: I think people should try to ignore their race, and just treat each other as equals.

Fullmetal Alchemist: The death of a culture, is the death of a people.
Fullmetal Alchemist: I'm not short, I just live in a big world.
Fullmetal Alchemist: If a man will not work, he shall not eat.
Fullmetal Alchemist: You think surrendering, and offering yourself will stop the war? How arrogant. The life of each human is worth one, that's it. Nothing more, nothing less.
Fullmetal Alchemist: War does not determine who is right - only who is left.
Fullmetal Alchemist: I will do what I can, even if my chance of passing is minuscule, if that will allow me to move forward.
Fullmetal Alchemist: A normal guy like me isn't going to be part of some "believe it or not" episode with nutcases like you guys!
Fullmetal Alchemist: I have no use for a religion that's been forsaken by its own god.
Fullmetal Alchemist: The moment a soldier dons his uniform, he accepts that he might be buried in it.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Even a piece of garbage has its pride.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Men are not men on the battlefield. We turn into some other creature. You can do the cruelest things... It doesn't even matter if it's an order or not. To protect yourself, your mind shuts out any emotions you have. It's like a steel door. But once the war is over, you can't keep it closed forever.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Nobody calls me a pipsqueak and gets away with it! Not even a little girl!
Fullmetal Alchemist: I sunk again. *after sinking in the desert*
Fullmetal Alchemist: There are always things more important than someone's dream...
Fullmetal Alchemist: You know, it's funny. Every crook I meet wants to tell me how much I'm just like them. But there's a big difference between you and me and the burdens we bear.
Fullmetal Alchemist: What pride... are you saying that you are God's equal?
Fullmetal Alchemist: Hey, mutt! I need exercise, so I'll play with you!
Fullmetal Alchemist: Ah... what a beautiful sound. It doesn't get any better than that. I can feel it deep in my bones, like a part of me I never noticed before. That sound is an extension of my being. And this land - this land that's governed by death - I will paint it red with this shard of destruction.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Come down here and face me, you third-rate fraud. I'll show you there's no comparison between us!
Fullmetal Alchemist: AHA-HA-HA! Alchemists are scientists. We don't believe in unprovable concepts like "God". *Rose looks angry* We strive to uncover the principles of creation in the matter of the world, to pursue truth... *gazes at Leto statue* it's ironic that we scientists... who don't believe in God... are in a sense the closest things to him.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Hughes, just a bit of advice. The soldiers who never shut up about their girls back home... They don't make it.
Fullmetal Alchemist: The great flow that maintains the universe, call it the cycle of life, the course of nature each one of us is just a small part of that part. One in the all. Yet without all the individual ones, the all can't exist. This world flows by following grander laws that we can't even imagine. To recognize that flow, to work in it. To decompose, and recreate, that is alchemy.
Fullmetal Alchemist: It's like that myth about the hero... He made wings out of wax so he could fly... but when he got too close to the sun... to God... the wax melted and he crashed to the ground...
